Blue Hills was created during my journey in the Teacher cum Laude program with the National Academy of Needlearts. I spent time exploring handmade paper within needlepoint.

I used the handmade paper in the following ways:

• I used a template from one of the areas to cut out a wavy section from handmade paper, which was attached using a Butterfly Chain Stitch.

• Tore a long strip of paper and tacked down one edge leaving the rough edge exposed. I wanted it to stand above the stitching.

• Rolled a strip of handmade paper and couched it down with pearl cotton.

• Tore strips of paper and painted them blue. They were placed behind the long blue stitches.
